Forklift Seat Belts - This guideline purpose is to be able to explain the Regulation necessities for the application of operator restraints or seatbelts on lift trucks. If whatever mobile machine has seat belts required by law, the driver and subsequent passengers should make sure they utilize the belts each time the motor vehicle is in motion or engaged in operation as this could cause the machinery to become unstable and thus, not safe.

While working a forklift, the seat belt requirements will depend on some factors. Contributing factors to this determination may include whether or not the the lift truck is equipped with a Rollover Protective Structure, the kind of lift truck itself and the year the forklift was actually made. The manufacturer's instructions and the requirements of the applicable standard are referenced in the Regulation.

Referring to an operator restraint device, enclosure or system, ANSI Standard ASME B56.1-1993 regarding powered industrial trucks, is intended to be able to assist the driver in lessening the risk of entrapment of the torso and/or head between the truck and the ground in the event of a tip over.
